When you are eating, your cat comes and starts meowing and stares at you to get some share . . . It’s too cute to refuse . . . but some foods are poisonous for cats !
In this post, I’ll tell you some of the harmful foods for cats.
Onions and Garlic
Onions, green onions, leeks, garlic and shallots are harmful foods for cats. They can cause damage to your cat’s red blood cells. Because they contain sulfoxides and disulphides , when they eat them, they can cause anemia, gastrointestinal problems, weakness, vomiting . . . even there is a risk to die . . .
Usually they don’t eat them because they don’t like the smell, but if your cat eats them accidentally, take him/her to the vet.
Chocolate and Cacao
Chocolate and cacao contain theobromine which is similar to caffein. Cats can’t break down theobromine well, so it can cause damage the central nervous system. If cats take them, they can cause vomiting, diarrhea, irregular heart rhythm, tremors, seizures and even death. All kinds of chocolate are poisonous for cats !
Xylitol is used in many products as artificial sweetener for our food. It’s safe for us, but it’s harmful for cats. It can cause vomiting, seizures and lack of coordination and it can lead to liver failure.
It is known that xylitol is extremely dangerous for dogs, but also it’s harmful for cats.
Human’s medicine is formulated for us not for cats. Some of the medicine are even poisonous for cats, especially acetaminophen which is common ingredient in pain relievers and cold medicine is very dangerous for cats. If they take acetaminophen, it causes decrease in liver function and even lead to death. Make sure you keep your medicine away from your kitty cat !
Nuts are toxic to dogs, but most of nuts are not seriously dangerous to cats. Even so, they aren’t recommended for cats. Because nuts contain lots of fat and oil, and if the cats take nuts, it might cause vomiting or diarrhea.
Avocado is not seriously dangerous for cats, but it can cause vomiting, diarrhea and gastroenteritis.
Keep balanced healthy diet for your kitty !
Cats don’t understand which food they shouldn’t eat. It’s your responsibility to manage your cat’s diet. Keep the food that are poisonous for cats where the cats can’t get at them and feed them safe and balanced food !
